Unlocking creativity in NYC: 3 takeaways from our publishers across the pond
As a Project Manager at HLabs, managing various projects and collaborating closely with clients to bring their ideas to life feels second nature to me. But recently, I had the privilege of experiencing a new journey: visiting some of our wonderful clients in New York – Atlas Obscura, Hearst Story Studio, Quanta Magazine, and The Red Bulletin.
These visits were not just about business but about strengthening the bonds we have with our clients. Each of these brands is a leader in their field, and at HLabs, we strive to deliver top-tier, innovative solutions that align with their unique objectives, from immersive storytelling to elevated content strategies. Our relationships with these teams are not just part of our work; they are the foundation of it, and we value them deeply.
Content is King: Pushing Boundaries in Digital Storytelling
At HLabs, content is at the heart of everything we do, and we’ve seen it grow into a key offering for our publisher clients. We work across various formats, from interactive experiences to social media assets. Some of the projects we’ve worked on recently like The Unraveling of Space-Time for Quanta Magazine and A Field Guide to Exploring Florida’s Best Birding Spots for Atlas Obscura, range from complex scientific concepts turned into a visually engaging experience to turning photography into cinemagraphs to bring Florida’s birding hotspots to life. It’s not just about creating content; it's about pushing the boundaries of what content can do.
Our publisher clients are experimenting with different formats and platforms to engage their audiences, and it's exciting to be part of this journey. We're constantly inspired by the potential of digital storytelling and the power of interactive features.
Whether we’re working on high-end editorial features or social media campaigns, our goal is always to craft content that captures attention and connects with people in meaningful ways.
Client Development and Customer Success: Building Long-Term Partnerships
An essential part of my day-to-day at HLabs is building solid and long-term relationships with our clients. Working with partners like Hearst Story Studio and Red Bulletin, our retainer model has allowed us to meet their immediate needs and stay ahead of their evolving goals for 4 years and counting.
Seeing how these partnerships have grown through open communication and flexibility has been rewarding. We've developed processes that allow us to deliver these quickly without sacrificing quality. Our strength in no-code solutions enables us to respond to changing needs with agility and creativity, and our full suite of services, which includes editorial, illustration, social activation and animation, allows us to innovate in many directions.
What’s a Rich Text element?
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
Static and dynamic content editing
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
How to customize formatting for each rich text
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
Process Alignment: Collaboration in Action
One of the most rewarding aspects of this trip was the opportunity to meet in person with our clients to workshop processes and workflows. While remote collaboration has become the norm, face-to-face interactions are uniquely powerful. We were able to align our goals, exchange ideas, and refine our processes much more quickly than we could have over email or Slack. The energy in the room was palpable, and it was clear that meeting in person helped spark new ideas and enhance our working relationships.
This experience underscored the irreplaceable value of in-person collaboration in our digital world, reminding us of its unique power to problem-solve efficiently and deepen our partnerships – even though we are all big fans of the remote life, which fills our teams with creativity from across the globe.
Visiting these fantastic clients in New York was a highlight of my time at HLabs. It drove home how vital collaboration, flexibility, and a shared commitment to creating engaging, innovative content are. What stood out the most was how much easier it is to collaborate when we have clients who are genuinely invested in the partnership – people who are just as excited to brainstorm, problem-solve, and grow. Each project we take on marks what we can achieve when we work together.
Whether it's crafting compelling editorial content, creating interactive experiences, or developing innovative solutions for your audience, HLabs is here to transform your vision into reality.
